Round 6 (22/6/11): Peadar Byrne returns as Ballinlough win
Peadar Byrne made his long awaited comeback to the Ballinlough colours on Tuesday night; he played a leading role as his team came away from Syddan with a two goal victory in Division 2 of the A-League.
Byrne showed no signs of rustiness from his nine month lay-off as he fired over four points in an industrious performance, his contribution around the middle of the field along with Tommy Mc Cullen and midfielders Cian Mallen and Seamus Fagan ensured that they won enough possession to run out convincing winners.
It started very well for Ballinlough when full-forward Lorcan Maguire netted twice inside the first ten minutes to leave the home team playing ‘catch-up’ for the rest of the game. Kevin Devine (free), Sean Geraghty, Cian Mallen and Peadar Byrne added points as Ballinlough led; 2-4 to 0-2, at half-time.
The Syddan performance improved significantly in the second-half but with Robbie Farrell putting in a strong display in the Ballinlough defence a comeback never looked likely. Peadar Byrne hit three points during this period and Seamus Fagan (free), Sean Geraghty, Ken Rothwell and Tommy Mc Cullen all hit the target as Ballinlough recorded their third win in a row.
