Two late points from Ken Rothwell helped Ballinlough earn a draw and ultimately book their place in the knock-out stages of the Junior D championship in Carnaross on Thursday evening.
Ballinlough started well and with early goals from and Paul Monaghan, it looked as if they were the stronger outfit in the early exchanges but a younger and slicker Moynalty team soon found their rhythm and began to dominate for much of the first half. Moynalty rattled over points in quick succession and held a slender one point lead; 1-5 to 2-1, at half-time.
Ballinlough made a couple of substitutions to try and inject more scoring power into their forward line and substitutes Jonathon Mongomery Francis and Christopher Gaughran added a lot of energy to their attack. Gaughran scored a couple of nice points and was unlucky with a goal effort, at the other Matthew Farrell made a brilliant stop to deny an almost certain goal as Ballinlough clung on.
With a couple of minutes remaining they trailed by two; 2-8 to 2-10, but Ken Rothwell scored to majestic points to earn his team a draw.
The result coupled with other results in the group sees Ballinlough and Moynalty go into the knock-out stages with Curraha unfortunate not to miss out.
