Kilmainham produced a strong second half performance to defeat Ballinlough in an entertaining Division 6 B-League match on Monday evening. The winners hit seven second half points as they recovered from a shaky start to record a well earned victory in Ballinlough.
It was Ballinlough who made the brighter start and they raced into an early lead courtesy of points from Kevin Devine and Mark Mc Cullen, Simon Deevey extended the lead when he palmed the ball to the net after quick thinking from James O’ Higgins created the opening, the goal left Ballinlough 1-2 to 0-0 ahead after 12 minutes. Sean Mahon opened the Kilmainham account with a point in the 18th minute and they enjoyed a strong finish to the half as they narrowed the Ballinlough lead to one point; 1-2 to 0-4 at half-time.
Kevin Devine pointed two frees for Ballinlough in the third quarter but they struggled to contain their opponents who improved steadily as the game progressed. Ger Morgan and Mark Newman were among the scorers as Kilmainham led, 0-9 to 1-4, with ten minutes remaining. Brian Smith then pointed a ’45 for Ballinlough to leave the minimum between the teams but Ger Morgan and Petsie Curran hit the last couple of points as Kilmainham ran out three point winners.
James O’ Keeffe excelled for Ballinlough, Pa Baugh and Simon Deevey also performed well.
