Ballinlough reversed their IFC defeat to Kells with an impressive home league win.
Strong defensive displays have been a feature of Ballinlough's league campaign so far but on this occasion it was an impressive attacking display that was the highlight of their performance as eight different players hit the target.
Colm Mallon and Derek Muldoon got early scores for Ballinlough before Stephen Reddy replied with a pointed free for the town side to leave it 0-2 to 0-1 after ten minutes. Cian Mallon was prominent as the winners established a foothold at midfield, James O' Higgins curled over a great score before Benji Smith, Colm Mallon (free) and Lorcan Maguire (free) split the posts in a strong eight minute spell at the end of the half; as they opened up a 0-6 to 0-1 lead.
Colm Mallon put Ballinlough back in the ascendancy at the start of the second half when he hand-passed over the bar after a defence splitting solo run. Trailing by 0-7 to 0-1 Gaeil Colmcille must have felt the situation could only improve, but when Ken Rothwell stole inside their cover and finished to their net in the 33rd minute it was evident that Ballinlough was heading for a comfortable victory. Benji Smith and Padraig Muldoon continued to impress in defence for 'The Reds' as Maguire (2) and Colm Mallon added frees to leave them 1-10 to 0-2 ahead after 50 minutes.
Ballinlough added four more points in the remaining ten minutes as an under strength Gaeil Colmcille outfit battled away gamely and landed late scores through Deco Smith (2) and the hard working Keith Reilly.
