This was a repeat of last year’s dramatic Division 6 B-League Final in which Drumbaragh prevailed after an epic battle which required extra time, this game never quite reached the same entertainment level but it was a lively contest none the less.
Ballinlough neglected their man marking duties early on as Drumbaragh raced out of the blocks to take an early 3-4 to 0-0 lead, with Thomas Carry doing much of the damage for the home side. The intermediate side regrouped and their defence and midfield tightened up significantly as Kevin Devine and Ken Rothwell goaled to bring them back in to contention, Bryan Smith was also prolific from placed balls as they trailed by five points; 3-6 to 2-4, at the break.
Ballinlough failed to build on their good finish to the first half as Drumbaragh maintained a comfortable lead for much of the second half, the visitors were left ruing a couple of misses that could of brought right back into contention. Goals from Simon Deevy and a late penalty from Tommy Shine did give them some hope but it wasn’t enough as Drumbaragh recorded a comfortable win.
